KINDRED CHORUS
A new community choir in Tucson, Arizona!

About Us
We are a fun, welcoming, non-audition chorus for adults (18+) in Tucson, AZ. We are accepting singers on a lottery basis of all vocal ranges of singers. We meet twice a month on Sunday evenings and sing a wide variety of songs. Our current repertoire includes Tears for Fears, Fleetwood Mac, Bangles, Tori Amos, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Cyndi Lauper, and more. We welcome individuals of all backgrounds, races, cultures, religious beliefs, political leanings, gender, LGBTQIA+ orientation, etc. We ask that all our members are open to a diverse community of singers as well.

About You
You have a love for music, enjoy the idea of singing in a group, and feel comfortable with your voice. Although no audition process is necessary, we trust you to know if you can carry a tune with confidence and keep your pitch. Ideally we also want your voice to blend with others in the group for a cohesive sound. Familiarity with sheet music is a bonus, but not required. Above all, you are energized by a community of diverse singers and empowered by the healing nature of song.

About the Founder
My name is Kristin Michels and I’m the founder of Kindred Chorus. I have been singing as long as I can remember and assumed from a young age that would be my path. I competed as a soloist and as a member of several groups in middle & high school. I started my undergrad as a music major but switched after I got sick my freshman year and lost my voice. (Ironically, I *almost* earned a minor in music but I was short a credit in choir!) Since then, my life and career took very different paths (if you're interested, you can read about my professional work here). Music has remained a grounding passion and therapeutic hobby despite not having a musical career.
I’ve continued to sing in community choirs during the last ~25 years since my undergrad. I was part of an incredible community choir, Kith + Kin (“friends and family”) in Minneapolis and when we moved to Tucson in 2021, it planted the seed of starting my own version. In full disclosure, I have no formal training in conducting or directing a choir. But, I do have a pretty good ear, life-long experience, and a devotion to choral singing. Fast forward to February 2025, I connected with a small group of singers and Kindred was born. “Kindred” was chosen as a nod to my former group while also embracing "those who deeply understand and resonate with each other, sharing similar beliefs, attitudes, and feelings”. I have a strong belief in the unifying connections we can build through song.

After several months of rehearsals, we are now growing. Even in our small group, we have felt the joy, power, vulnerability, sorrow, and goosebumps that music often provides. The connections we make through music are special, and we are very excited for this next chapter of Kindred.
